Synthesis and Screen Time

Today, many parents are rightly concerned about the amount of time kids spend in front of screens.

Tech companies offer significant value to kids, but their incentives are often misaligned with the goal parents have for their children. Parents want their kids to strike the right balance between their time online and their time in the real world. Tech companies want to capture the attention of kids for as long as possible so they can monetize it.

Synthesis works on a different model. We create educational experiences that empower kids to make the best use of their time online. As a result, our games are not designed to be addictive. They’re designed to demand high levels of mental energy. Students need time to process what they’ve learned, reflect on their experiences, and recharge in order to get the most out of their Synthesis sessions.

In this respect, Synthesis differs from other online games, like Minecraft, Roblox, and Fortnite. Our games are engaging, but they’re also intense. They give kids the chance to solve the kinds of problems that the world’s greatest innovators face every day.
